DVD Review : Ice Ribbon 15/12/07

Ice Ribbon 15th December 2007 Tokyo

My first Ice Ribbon DVD, and very strange and endearingly lo-fi it is too. The "ring" is a large blue mat and the "arena" is a large underground room with a white concrete wall facing the camera. It looks more like the site of an illegal rave than a wrestling card but lets go!

Makato vs Shimouma Kazumi

This is the first time i have seen Shimouma who appears late-20s/early-30s. I know some Ice Ribbon rookies are quite old. Makato of course has the gimmick of being an idiot. Both girls are very refreshing, Shimouma just gets on with the match and Makato stands out from the crowd of over-eager rookies. Amusingly though referee Tommy gets the biggest pop. 1.5/5

I put this match on YouTube, enjoy!

Kaori Yoneyama vs Seina

Ice Ribbon is best known for it's kids of course. Seina is an early teenager and amusingly is much taller than the older established wrestler Kaori. Its an exhibition match and has a rather clumsy ending. 1/5

Riho & Mr Gannosuke vs Emi Sakura & Masahiro Takahashi

Mixed-tag action with kids, Ice Ribbon rocks! The unlikely combination of a fat bearded old guy with a little kid must be the weirdest tag-team since the Colossal Connection. Good fun match including some fat grabs. 2/5

Aoi Kizuki & Mai Ichii vs Minoru Makiba & Aya Yuki

Our main event has a collection of rookies from Ice Ribbon and beyond. A nice tag-team match up. The wrestling is basic but energetic and one just hopes the girls can develop a personality beyond the usual. 1.5/5

Overall a very enjoyable card.

Match : Devil Masami vs Jumbo Hori

Some real old skool from 1980, the amazing thing about this match-up is both wrestlers are still going and indeed fought in an exhibition match earlier this year. Devil Masami is going to retire at the end of the year though. Here both are both at the early stages of their careers (and look very different to how they look today!)

Match : Mayumi Ozaki vs. Sendai Sachiko

Sachiko does the usual Sendai Girls trainee job to the vet but this time with some fun Ozaki antics.

Match : Sayuri Okino vs Jumbo Hori

I have put a couple of matches onto YouTube from an LLPW card earlier in the year, i'll put more online when i have time. Anyway here is Sayuri Okino versus Jumbo Hori and includes the use of a sumo wrestler as maybe the ultimate "foreign object".

Match : Obacchi Iizuka vs Yumi Ohka

One of my favourites Obacchi Iizuka in action, she retired earlier this year sadly. I know she is unpopular with a lot of the foreign joshi fans but i love her radish attacks. This match is from Jd a few years back.

She is threatening to return with the ultimate radish weapon!

Match : Kyoko Inoue vs Fuuka

A match from 2007, which was not a good year for Kyoko. She found out she was pregnant but also had cancer. Her baby was delivered safely though and she began treatment for her cancer. Earlier this year she made a triumphant and emotional return to her NEO promotion.

Match : Makoto vs. Minami Hikari

After the orgy of Ice Ribbon results i have just been trying to translate how about a match from 2007 at the Ichigaya icebox, a venue where you can truly get close to the action...

Match : Ozaki/Inoue vs Dump/Tsuchiya

Well officially the match is between those 2 duos but its basically a big old hardcore brawl fest with weapons and plenty of "guest stars", my favourite kind of match!

Match : Haruka Matsuo vs. Ayumi Kurihara

Following a lengthy period of recovery from injury Ayumi Kurihara returns to the ring in December (December 14th in fact). Here is one of her matches from 2007.

Match : Chikayo Nagashima vs Kaori Nakayama

Back in the days of GAEA a youngish Chikayo Nagashima in action.

Match : Mio Shirai & Io Shirai vs. DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko

Part 1 of a (hopefully) regular trawl of joshi matches available on YouTube, now be warned these videos might be pulled any time. First week... well as Mio Shirai and DASH Chisako are 2 of my favourite stars from the new generation how could i resist this match?
